As the Melbourne Design Week kicks off, a new exhibition is opening at our Museo Italiano. Parallel Visions presents contemporary re-interpretations of Italian design through visual art, display systems and virtual reality.
Italian design is famous throughout the world for its quirky, avant-garde ideas. Gaetano Pesce, Bruno Munari, Giuseppe Pagano, Gio Pomodoro and Alessandro Mendini are all big names in design history – but history does not just live in the past: it can continue to shape the future. The Parallel Visions exhibition features works from artists Liliana Barbieri, Anna Caione, Sarina Lirosi and Wilma Tabacco.
The opening night will see the participation of Karen Fermo (designer, curator and educator) and Flavia Marcello (Associate Professor, Swinburne University) on the 12 March at 6:30pm, with a second event on Thursday 19 March dedicated to the legacies of Italian Design.
